These laptops cannot supply sufficient power for similar big external devices such as external hard drives or optical drives. The phenomenon is that the indicator of the CD DVD drive will flash for a few seconds and then disappear. Although occasionally your computer can recognize the external optical drive, it still cannot play the disc.
